Statement on Parental Rights and SOGI

Statement on Parental Rights and SOGI

Vancouver, B.C. - Parents know their children better than any government bureaucrat ever will.

Over the course of this campaign, I have held more than 40 events in communities across British Columbia, from living rooms in Surrey to community halls in Fort St. John. At nearly every stop, parents have raised the same concern: what is being taught in their children’s classrooms, and the lack of a meaningful role for them in those decisions.

They are not fringe voices. They are thoughtful, engaged parents who care deeply about their children’s well-being.

I have heard directly from parents who are worried that current approaches are not addressing bullying, but in some cases making it worse. Others have shared concerns about age-inappropriate material and a lack of transparency in the classroom.

This issue is not new. While knocking on more than 5,000 doors during the federal election last year, SOGI was the most frequently raised policy concern. Time and again, parents asked a simple question: where do you stand?

Here is my answer: SOGI, as it exists today, must be repealed.

What I Will Do as Premier

Return control to parents

No one has a greater stake in a child’s upbringing than their parents. Decisions that affect children in the classroom must include meaningful parental input. That will be restored under my government.

Ensure age-appropriate curriculum

Any classroom discussion involving sexuality must follow a clearly defined, developmentally appropriate curriculum that is transparent and consistently applied across the province.

Protect younger students

Elementary school children should not be exposed to advanced topics related to sexuality. This is common sense, and it will guide policy under my leadership.

This is not about division. Every parent I have spoken to wants their children to learn respect, tolerance, and kindness toward others. What they are asking for is a seat at the table and right now, they do not have one. That will change. I have worked inside government. I have led through complex challenges and delivered results. I understand how to navigate systems and implement change.
